Conquering Diabetes
A Cutting-Edge Comprehensive Program for Prevention and Treatment
      Written by:  Anne Peters, MD
                Copyright 2005

This is one of the best diabetes books I have ever read!  For a MD, she writes so
that diabetics understand what she is saying.  She uses some medical terms, but
goes on to explain them.

Some information is repeated in different sections of the book, but it is only really
important stuff.  Even if you aren’t a Type 1 diabetic, reading the section was very
informative.  I found Chapter 6 very interesting.  It deals with Female Troubles and
some of those topics are: Insulin Resistance, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
(PCOS), and Gestational Diabetes.  I kind of skimmed over the gestational
diabetes section since I had it, and I don’t plan on having it ever again!!

Dr Peters, has some interesting ideas about how to treat diabetes.  She doesn’t
package us all into one category.  She really understands that this is an individual
disease and it affects us all differently.  She doesn’t go on and on about the ADA
and their diet.  She says carbohydrate amounts per meal can be “up to 60
grams.”  It all depends on your level of activity and if you need weight loss.

Dr. Peters chose to be an endocrinologist in a time where there aren’t very many
around.  She speaks to doctors about the importance of how to treat diabetes.
She understands that most doctors have no clue how to treat diabetes properly.
She admits that after she speaks, many doctors come up to her and they have
diabetes and they can’t even treat their own diabetes properly!!!  She thinks that
is just horrible.  She also says it is up to the diabetic to get the best treatment they
can and to do the research themselves and “make” the doctor treat them properly
and with the proper medications.

I loved this book.  I may purchase this one and add it to my collection.  It is up to
date and very informative.  I borrowed this copy from my local library.

I give this book 10  out of 10 stars

Happy Reading!!
