Back in my younger years I had a friend that was a diabetic, and we spent much
time together, spending time at each other’s homes over night. One night for
instance, was right around Halloween, and Sally lived right across the street
from the church we attended.
That night the church was holding a prayer vigil, and Sally and I had signed up
for the 3'oclock spot as she had to check her BG's at 2:30 and have a snack any
way. Now I can’t imagine anything spookier than the inside of a large dimly lit
church at 3'oclock in the morning.
It was freezing cold outside and the wind was hollowing around us as we
approached the church.
When we entered the church we were happy to get in from the cold. As soon as
we closed the big double doors behind us I was immediately left with the
impression of a large dark cave with a lighted altar far off into the distance.
There were no lights, just the candles glowing on the altar in front of us. It was
so dark that we could not see the entire room we were in.
After taking off our coats and placing them on the front pew, Sally went up to
the altar to pray. I just sat there on the front pew behind her glancing around the
church.
After praying, Sally lit up a piece of straw and started to light one of the candles
that was still unlit. It was at that moment that a strange icy wind blew in from
behind us and blew all the candles out.
I sat in fear as I watched all of the candles begin to relight. However Sally's
candle did not light back up. Sally looked at me calmly and said someone must
have come in the church.
We both shuttered from the cold, and Sally tried to relight her candle and
another strong chilling wind came and blew out all of the candles. Again I sat in
total fear. And again all the candles began to relight, except for the one that
Sally was trying to light.
I half jokingly and quite nervously told Sally that I thought that someone did not
want her to light that candle!
Sally told me a bit nervously she did not believe in that nonsense and there
must be something wrong with the heating system.
When she lit her candle a third time I ran to the alter next to Sally, and another
icy wind came and blew out all the candles.. And yes you guessed it all the
candles came back but the one the Sally was trying to light.
We both dropped to our knees and prayed with all of our might, and I light a
different candle, and we grabbed our coats and ran for the door.
As a final note, Sally noticed a person standing by the door in the shadows as
she left the church, I saw and old woman dressed in a black overcoat and black
shawl, but Sally saw a man dressed in a monks habit standing in the very same
place that I had seen the woman.
No one knows why we say two different people standing in the same place but
to this day we will not go into a church late at night!!!!
