There is some concern that blood glucose levels (BG's) are slightly elevated by
this medication. It appears to be a low enough number that if you are gaining
relief, your doctor may decide the relief is better for you than the modestly lower
BG level. According to the FDA, Cymbalta is the first drug to help reduce 24 hour
pain in diabetics. This improvement is noted in even the first week of treatment.
Cymbalta does not change the nerve damage, but does offer relief for many. For
anyone who has lived with the burning or stabbing pain of neuropathy, it is very
exciting news indeed. During the night, sleep is elusive if you have the symptoms I
have spoken of here. Cymbalta is believed to increase levels of serotonin and
norepinephrine and this allows your body naturally to help regulate pain.
"Nothing is as good as going back to the days before we had any of this to deal
with, but at least some help is offered."
For any diabetic patient that has begun to suffer the effects of
neuropathy, this piece on Cymbalta should share some needed
information with you. The miserable nerve pain, burning, tingling or
numbness shows up generally in your extremities. Several studies have
been done with this medication. Originally created for severe depression,
Cymbalta has been shown effective in many cases.
