For the most part we were born with 2 feet, and we would all like to keep them, in the best shape that we can keep them.. I personally have seen a lot of women out there go to great lengths to do so.. I used to get my nails done, and there were women in the salon, getting their toe nails done, with the French tips on them.. Now I love a good foot massage as well as the next person.. but ................ I guess some people just have money to burn.. But I must admit it did look awfully nice with the pretty sandals they had on.. Not the $1.99 ones I buy at Wal-Mart either.. But on with my subject here.. Lets talk about the care of feeding of the Diabetic foot ... We have all been to our Doctors office and seen that really nasty poster on the wall of the Diabetic foot.. who puts that awful thing out.. but I do believe it scared me enough to go home and take care of my feet.. !! I am not a diabetic, But my Husband Mike is, so I am on him constantly, (nicely ;) ) to take care of his feet.. I have told him, the feet on the poster don't get into my bed !! But seriously now, people with neuropathy need to take special care of their feet. The nerves to the feet are the longest in the body and are the ones most often affected by neuropathy. Here are the things that should be done to the feet every day !!!! Clean your feet daily, using warm , not hot water.. and a mild soap..Avoid soaking your feet. Dry them with a soft towel, and dry carefully between the toes.. Inspect your feet and toes every day, for cuts, blisters, redness, and swelling.. Calluses, or other problems. Use a mirror ( laying the mirror on the floor, works well) or get some help from someone else if you can not see the bottoms of your feet. Notify your Doc. if you see a problem.. Moisturize your feet with lotion, but avoid getting it between your toes. To much attention between the toes causes irritation After a bath or shower, file corns and calluses gently with a pumice stone. Each week or when needed, cut your toenails to the shape of your toes and file the edges with an emery board.. Always wear shoes or slippers to protect your feet from injuries. Prevent skin irritations by wearing thick ,soft seamless socks. Wear shoes that fit well, and allow your toes to move, Break in new shoes gradually by wearing them for only an hour at a time at first. Before putting your shoes on, look them over carefully and feel the insides with your hand to make sure they have no tears or sharp edges or objects in them that might injure your feet. If you need help taking care of your feet, make an appointment to see a foot doctor. So to sum this up, take good care of your feet. Wash them daily, pat them dry, and don't scrub between your toes.. keep lotion on them daily.. keep your nails trimmed, and don't do bare foot.. If your house is anything like mine you will never know what you might step on around here... !! If your feet tend to perspire a great deal, I would change socks during the day, and dry them again, and apply more lotion.. You can never be to careful with your feet.. If you keep your feet happy, you will be happy, to me there is nothing worse than sore feet.. Blessings to you all, Nancy Brown.. |
