Blood Sugar Control Important in Diabetics on
Dialysis
Good control of Blood Sugar in Diabetics with
chronic kidney disease that undergo regular
dialysis in a better prognosis.
Strict control of blood glucose decreases diabetes
complications, which determine the quality of life
and prognosis of such persons.
In a long-term observation study their researchers
looked at the impact of glycemic control on survival
during regular dialysis in 114 diabetic patients over
an average of about 45 months.
The study found the patients with elevated A1C
levels, had a significantly lower survival rate than
those with lower A1C levels,
Persons with a poor A1C levels were more likely to
die from cardiovascular disease or infection than
persons with fair or good A1C levels.
These findings suggested the importance of
achieving good blood sugar control for improving
the outlook of diabetic persons on dialysis.
This is just one of the other reasons it is so very
important to have tight control of your BG's at all
times..
Until next time, Blessings, Nancy
