Delta Burke was born July 30,1956 in Orlando, Florida. She was the eldest of three and
started modeling and entering beauty contest at an early age. She won 18 pageant titles
by the time she was 17. Delta was Miss Florida in 1974, winning the talent scholarship
and used the scholarship to attend a two year study at London Academy of Music and
Dramatic Arts. She had a  co-staring role in the movie "Charleston" and also mini-series,
"The Seekers and the Chisholms". She got a leading role in the movie "Filthy Rich", as
well as the starring role on HBO's first weekly series, "First and Ten". But Delta is best
known for her five year stint playing as Suzanne Sugarbaker in CBS's "Designing
Women".
Delta was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in 1997. Her doctors told her to
either lose weight or they would have to put her on insulin, so  she started to change
her style of eating. Delta would eat meat, with no bread, white cheese and some fruit.
She soon lost 20 pounds and her blood sugars went down. She called her new diet a
high protein diet. She is on pill medications only but would like to lose more weight in
hopes of getting off those and treating her diabetes with diet and exercise only. She has
had several public service announcements for the American Association of Clinical
Endocrinologists. The Message that she had was:
1- Screen people with a high risk of diabetes by the age of 30.
2- Get your A1C down to 6.5 %.
3.  When testing, have your blood sugars 110 before eating (pre-prandial) and
140 after eating (2 hours post-prandial).

Delta's Book," Delta Style, Eve wasn't a size 6 and Neither am I ", is designed to help
overweight women accept themselves. She also has a line of clothes geared toward
larger women.
